ArtistWorks Blues Guitar Debut and Blasters Join Xmas Family Tour

Welcome to my first blog. I’ll be posting pieces here from time to time about whatever is going on, so please check back to see what’s new.

To kick things off, the first bit of news is about the upcoming Xmas Family Tour; the second year in a row that the Blasters have opened for LA punk/rock legends X on their annual West coast run. This year, X is switching gears and going all acoustic in a radical departure from their trademark hard-edged electric set. We haven’t heard it yet ourselves, so we’re all looking forward to the first show. Here’s the itinerary:

12/5 Tucson Rialto Theater

12/7 Phoenix Carousel Ballroom

12/11 San Diego Casbah

12/12 San Juan Capistrano Coach House

12/13 Agoura Canyon Club

12/18 Portland Star Theater

12/19 Seattle El Corazon

12/20 Seattle El Corazon

12/21 Portland Star Theater

12/26 San Francisco Fillmore Auditorium

12/27 San Francisco Fillmore Auditorium

12/28 Sacramento The Assembly

I’ll post more info during or after the tour, and in February the Blasters will be hitting the road again for Texas and the Southwest – details to come.

The second bit of exciting news is the scheduled December 9 debut of my Blues Guitar School on www.artistworks.com. I took pretty much everything I learned from 35 years of teaching at Musicians Institute plus the videos, books, and articles I have written over the years and organized it into a curriculum made up of dozens of video lessons covering a very wide range of styles and techniques from beginning to advanced levels. Last October we spent six solid days shooting video in the ArtistWorks studio in Napa, CA and the result is loads of specific examples (most accompanied by tab/notation) and backing tracks plus specific references for essential listening. The ArtistWorks concept also includes video exchanges, providing the opportunity for students to interact with me and each other from anywhere in the world. ArtistWorks has a lineup of great artist/teachers like my old MI colleague Paul Gilbert, bass virtuosos Nathan East and John Patitucci, fingerstyle jazz master Martin Taylor and many others, so I’m extremely honored to be part of the family and I am looking forward very much to see it up and running. On or after December 9, please go to the site, check it out and let me know what you think.

That’s it for now – see you down the road a piece…
